Introduction
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting your FedEx account with Returndotai Returns. You'll learn how to create a FedEx API project, obtain your credentials, and integrate with Returndotai Returns for automated return label generation.
Access this feature
Navigate to /settings/logistic in your application.
Step 1: Create a FedEx API Project
Login to FedEx Developer Account
Login to the FedEx Developer account at https://developer.fedex.com

Create an Organization
- 1Go to "My Projects" > "Create an organization"
- 2Fill in your organization details
- 3After you create an organization, you will see the "Manage Organization" tab

Create a New Project
- 1Click "My Projects" > "Create a project"
- 2Enter project name and description
- 3Select your organization from the dropdown

Enable Required APIs
Enable APIs to create a project and choose the "NEXT" button. Make sure to enable the Ship API as it is required for label creation.

Confirm Project Details
Click on the "CREATE" button to confirm details and finalize your project setup.

Step 2: Obtain API Credentials
Get Production API Keys
After creating your project, you can get your API KEY, ACCOUNT NUMBER, and SECRET KEY to connect with FedEx in the Returndotai Returns & Exchanged app.

IMPORTANT: Use Production Keys
API KEY, ACCOUNT NUMBER, and SECRET KEY must be created during production. If you use "Test Key", you cannot connect FedEx in the app. Please switch to "Production Key" and follow the instructions.

Verify Ship API is Enabled
If you already have a FedEx project, please check if your project has added the Ship API. To create labels, your project must have the Ship API enabled.

Step 3: Connect with Returndotai Returns
Navigate to Logistics Settings
Once you have your API Key:
- 1Log in to your Returndotai Returns dashboard
- 2Navigate to the "Settings" section > "Logistics" tab
- 3Look for the FedEx integration option and click "Connect" or "Set up"
- 4You'll be prompted to enter your API Key. Paste the key you received from FedEx into this field

Enter API Credentials and Connect
- 1Enter your API Key from FedEx
- 2Enter your Account Number
- 3Enter your Secret Key
- 4Click "Connect" to establish the connection

Step 4: Configure Settings
Configure Settings
After connecting:
- 1Set your default package sizes and types
- 2Make sure method "Ship with pre-paid label" is enabled

Step 5: Test the Connection
Create a Test Return Request
Before going live, test the integration:
- 1Create a test return request on the return page
- 2Choose "Ship pre-paid label" for return method
- 3Note: This method is only displayed on return page if you enabled it in Step 4

Submit Request and Verify Label
- 1Submit the test return request
- 2Go into the app, open this request in the "Return management" tab
- 3Click to approve the request
- 4Select FedEx as the shipping carrier if prompted
- 5Verify that the label is created correctly and contains accurate information
- 6Check shipping address, package details, and tracking number

Important Notes
Use Production Keys Only
Test Keys will NOT work with the Returndotai Returns app. You must switch to Production Keys to successfully connect FedEx.
Enable Ship API
Make sure your FedEx project has the Ship API enabled. Without this API, you cannot create return labels.
Test Before Going Live
Always create a test return request and verify that labels are generated correctly before enabling the integration for customers.
Keep Credentials Secure
Never share your API Key, Account Number, or Secret Key publicly. These credentials provide access to your FedEx account.
Verify Organization Setup
Ensure your FedEx organization is properly set up before creating projects. This helps avoid authentication issues.
Enable Pre-Paid Labels
Remember to enable "Ship with pre-paid label" in your settings, or customers won't see this option on the return page.
